Lilac Season with Solino

Every spring, there is a week in Marin when the air changes.

You can smell it before you fully register it. A softness. A quiet sweetness drifting through open windows. Lilac season never shouts, it simply arrives, and I wait for it every year.

When I began working with Solino on this collection of linens at Table and Dine, I knew immediately I wanted to lean into that fleeting moment. Their lilac floral print feels like a garden just beginning to bloom, branches winding organically across ivory linen, tiny petals scattered as if they fell there naturally. It felt less like fabric and more like a memory.

If you’ve followed my styling work through the Table and Dine portfolio, you know I let the table tell the story.

The floral tablecloth drapes generously, the pattern moving freely across the surface without interruption. I paired it with woven rattan chargers to ground the delicacy of the print. That interplay of organic texture against soft botanicals is one of my favorite tabletop styling techniques. Nature layered upon nature. It always works.

At each setting, pale blue scalloped plates add the faintest whisper of contrast. The undulating edge mirrors the movement of the branches in the linen. I folded the matching napkins loosely and secured them with simple bamboo rings, an effortless detail inspired by past favorites like Put a Napkin Ring On It. Nothing overly constructed. The print does enough on its own.

The centerpiece is unapologetically lush. A full arrangement of fresh lilac gathered in a textured white ceramic vessel, stems slightly asymmetrical, leaves still attached. I love when florals feel as though they were just clipped from the garden moments ago. The scent carries through the room gently. You do not need candles competing with that.

Crystal glasses catch the afternoon light, each filled with sparkling water and a slice of lime. The faint fizz, the condensation on the glass, the quiet clink as guests settle into their seats. If you are planning your own gathering, our guide on 8 Drinks for a Libatious Summer pairs beautifully with a setting like this.

For the menu, I kept it relaxed. A simple cheese board layered with ripe grapes, nutty wedges, seeded crisps, and a bowl of roasted almonds placed on a large woven tray nearby. This is my version of elevated entertaining. Abundant but unfussy. Beautiful, yet completely comfortable. What I appreciate most about collaborating with Solino is the way their linens hold both pattern and restraint. The print feels expressive, yet it never overwhelms. It allows space for the tabletop to breathe. You can explore more from our newer collection to see how we continue layering softness and story into every season.

This table feels like California lifestyle entertaining at its best. Doors open. Light pouring in. Conversation lingering. Plates casually stacked at the edge once dessert is finished. It captures that same effortless spirit you see in our favorite guide to The Most Magical Al Fresco Dinner Party Ideas.

At Table and Dine, this is what we love most, creating moments that feel both intentional and entirely natural. There is just something about lilac against white that makes everything feel possible again.

Would you sit a little longer?
